BIOSTORG, Houthalen - Helchteren
BioSTORG has build a co-fermentation plant based on organic products specific to the farm (pig manure, maize, crop residues ..) together with by-products from organic food.
The plant has a biogas engine and a dual-fuel engine with a capacity of 1 MWe each or a total capacity of 2MWe.
The co-fermentation in brief:
1. Input
The plant can process several streams:
• manure from the pigs
• Energy Crops including corn from the farm
• Organic by-products and streams
• Organic sludge that is difficult to to transport.
2. Preparation
From the various input channels, the organic material is pumped into the mixer to create a homogeneous mixture. Then the substrate is stored in a buffer tank, which has a stabilizing effect on the feeding of the reactors.
3. Fermentation
Two parallel fermentors.
The operating temperature was deliberately chosen in the mesic area (37 ° C) due to the stable properties of these bacteria.
After fermentation, all digestate is heated to 70 ° during one hour to meet the European Directive 1774.
The biogas production is good for 1500 kW - the installed capacity is 2 x 1000 kW which is composed as follows:
- 1000 kW engine for biogas
- 1000 kW dual fuel engine.
A dual fuel enigine has the ability to simultaneously run biogas and vegetable oil with a minimum of 50% vegetable oil up to 100%.In a sense the plant acts as a buffer for biogas. But it has mainly been chosen because it provides a security of supply to Molenheide!
